I saw the new Tommy Armour Ayr Time driver today. Yes… it’s called the Ayr Time. You know… Tommy Armour was Scottish… Ayr is a Scottish name… it’s a play on words thing. It is a full titanium head with… get this… are you sitting down? Movable weights! What a revolutionary technology… no one else has done that yet! Oh wait… nevermind. The club has three weights in a line across the back of the sole… one on the toe, one on the heel and one right in the middle. It comes with one heavy weight and two lighter ones. The weights come out using a little key that comes with the club. The Ayr Time isn’t all that awful to look at and the colors and headcover remind me a bit of the Nike Ignite. The driver I saw had an Aldila NV shaft but my rep said that won’t be the stock option. It should retail in more of a value pricepoint… right about where the current Callaway Big Bertha 454 and Cobra SZ drivers are now. My rep also says that the Armour line is totally different for next year with new forged irons, new fairway woods and a new putter line. Sounds like the company won’t use the Teardrop name anymore (although they still own it) but will keep the Ram name as their value line. Tommy Armour will probably also look to get some play on the Champions Tour as well… and maybe even sign a guy or two. I really hope Armour has turned a corner and is on it’s way back to success. Many golfers loved the older Armour stuff but recent clubs from the company have really scared away consumers. I’ll have some more info in the coming weeks and I’ll keep you posted.
