Some clubs get all the hype and some of them even live up to all the hype. Then you get the clubs that fly under the radar… clubs that are great but maybe don’t get all the credit that they deserve.

Talk to a lot of golf industry people and they will tell you that the Cleveland HALO is one of those clubs. The HALO came out a bit late and it was missed by a lot of the “hype machines”… the golf magazine club review sections, the start of the year golf consumer shows and early season advertisments. When a club reaches the retail level late, it has a lot of catching up to do!

The Cleveland HALO is designed to hit the ball high… just like pretty much every other hybrid club for that matter. Cleveland has hollowed out a bit of the crown and this helps keep the center of gravity low. It kind of looks like an iron from the Callaway GES ladies set. The HALO has a very deep face and it is really easy to hit off the tee and out of the rough. One of the things that makes the HALO such a good club is it’s performance on miss hits. The HALO has a very high MOI (moment of inertia) which means it stays stable and square on heel and toe shots. It is also very forgiving and miss hits still go somewhere… usually straight! The stock shaft options available in the HALO are decent but I recommend upgrading the stock graphite. The stock steel (Dynamic Gold Super Lite) works great in the club but most people would be wise to look at the Fujikura Banzai or UST IRod if they want graphite. The HALO is offered in 4 different lofts and most people can find one or two that fit into their bag.

Customers like the HALO… but it takes some pushing to get them to actually hit it. A lot of people don’t know that the club exists… that might have something to do with when it was released. Customers rave about it’s forgiveness and it’s high ball flight. The price is right about par for the course and it has a chance to sell really well if Cleveland can just get the word out there. We get lots of email about the Cleveland HALO… people raving about it and people asking about it. I get the odd complaint that the hollowed out top is ugly but those comments are few and far between. If I was to give the HALO a rating on my own… I’d give it a 100%… I like it that much. But this site is all about the customer and the customer is always right! In a nut shell… people don’t usually ask about it but they are happy after they hit it.
