The Clay Pigeon Golf Shot

You know, this video almost depresses me. These guys take what 5.. 6 shots to nail a moving target the size of a dinner plate a hundred or so yard away. Gives new meaning to “these guys are good”. Have a look at this video of Thongchai Jaidee, David Horsey, Johan Edfors and Simon Kahn as they try to hit clay pigeons mid-air in Dubai.

From all the staff at SirShanksAlot.com – we want to wish you a happy New Year… and we’ll see you in 2011! Enjoy!

Hey everyone, and thanks for stopping by on this busy time of year.  Today we got some pics and details of the new Srizon Z-star driver for 2011.  Also we’ve included a picture of the GiE Driver – which was actually released in a slightly different version in Japan for 2008.  It looks like this new picture is slimmer model – it recently appeared on the USGA conforming club list.  The Z-Star Driver looks pretty sweet, and the custom Miyazaki shaft looks awesome.  Check it out!

From The Shop – Golf Swing Mistakes

Golf Swing Faults and FixesThe golf swing is one of the most important parts of the game. If you’re unable to master good elements of a perfect swing, your scores will be sure to reflect it.

If you’re an avid golfer, whether playing several times a week, or simply a fan of the sport, you know that most of the game is about the golf swing. Sure there are other contributing issues to good performance. How well do your shoes fit, do you wear golf gloves, are your clubs custom fit? But at the end of it all, even with the worst set of equipment imaginable, a solid swing based on good fundamentals will still produce solid results.

TaylorMade Patents "White" & Titleist's Groovy Dimples

Taylormade patent all-white driverOver at golf-patents.com, there are two patents of particular interest that I thought I would share with you today.  Both these patents are quite comical.  First up, Cobra Golf may have been the first company to release an all-white driver to the public with their Cobra ZL Limited Edition model.  However, long before this, there were rumors abound about TaylorMade releasing their new R11 in a “ghosted” or “all-white” finish.  It appears TaylorMade may be a little angry, so angry in fact that they went ahead an put a patent on the “all-white” clubhead.

Description of Mark: The color(s) white is/are claimed as a feature of the mark. The mark consists of the color white applied to the entire surface of a golf club head and a shaft of contrasting color. The dotted lines and diagonal-lined shaft are intended to show the position of the mark and are not part of the mark as shown.

New Titleist Pro-V1 for 2011

Hey everyone, and thanks for stopping by… Today, we’ll take a little closer look at the new Titleist Pro-V1 for 2011.  There’s been a fair bit of buzz about this ball, and not too much fact.  The video and pics will give you some of the best details about this new ball, and I’ve included what some people are saying about them below (rumors).  In my opinion, as a Pro-V1 player, it’s hard to improve on the latest model, but from what I hear Titleist did exactly that – I’m looking forward to trying this ball out on the links soon.

Enjoy!

Facts:

• Will maintain the three-piece design (see the video below)pro v1x 2011 ttitleist

• A change in dimple patterns on the face

• New alignment stamp (see pictures)

• The ball made its first competitive debut on October 9th, during the first round of the McGladrey’s Classic

• The ball has already had monumental success on tour with wins from Padraig Harrington, Steven Bowditch, and Michio Matsumura

• Thousands of sleeves have been sent out to Team Titleist members in solid white cases. (see Titleist’s Pro-V1 Prototype vid here)

Who Wins? Appleby's Drive or a Lamborghini Gallardo

I’m not too sure about this one… Callaway Golf and Lamborghini have recently announced that they will be racing a Lamborghini Gallardo vs a drive from Stuart Appleby to 300 meters. This event is to commemorate the launch of their partnership, and the forged composite material in their new Diablo Octane Driver line for 2011.

Sure it’s a publicity stunt, but who care, I’m curious as to who wins.  I did a little math, and using the Lamborghini’s quarter mile (440 yards) time of 12 seconds as a baseline – I figure it will take her about 8-9 seconds to make the 300 meter trip.  I’d bet that Appleby’s higher ball flight works against him on this one. Off the line Appleby’s a clear winner, but as the ball slow, I see the Lamborghini pulling away with the win.  What do you think?

Impact & the Golf Swing

Impact is the moment of truth in a golf swing. If your impact position resembles the picture at right for your irons, you’re already a very solid player. This position is the key to power and consistency, and you can see it among all the best players in the world. As unique as every professionals swing is, their impact positions are pretty much identical. There are two key features to an ideal impact position.

1) Your head should be behind the ball.

As you swing into impact your body is transferring all the power created by your larger muscles into the smaller quicker muscles into impact. Anatomically, power is generated first with your core, as your weight begins to transfer over your legs kick in and add to the power. This power is then transferred to your shoulders, down your arms and finally as your wrists release from their cocked position, into the club.

With the rotation and movement your body is experiencing, your body center must remain relatively still to ensure you make contact with the ball. This balanced position is what creates consistency. So what does this mean to you? If your head is ahead of the ball at impact, you’re not creating power properly, and your swing is inconsistent.

Headcover Power Drill

headcover power drillThis drill helps players who keep their right elbow too close to their body at the top of their backswing. This fault causes your swing to lose width (a key factor in creating power) and your muscles to tense up.

Place a headcover in the armpit of your trailing arm as shown in the image (sort of). The headcover will lock your right arm in place during the first part of your backswing helping you to maintain the ideal ‘triangle at address’. Start swinging back, letting the right elbow slowly move away, but not so much that it starts to ‘fly’. If you make the right move at the top of your backswing, the headcover should fall out. If it doesn’t, you’ve tensed up and your swing width has been drastically reduced, much like your power. Remember that the headcover should fall out at the top of your backswing, any earlier and your arms are separating from your body too soon.
