I think the NJ/NY Gotham FC brand is effective at leaning into its New Jersey identity, while still being ‘New York.’ The hidden J/Y in the crest reminds me of the hidden 11 in the old Big Ten logo. If/when RBNY ever drop the Red Bull branding, maybe that’s the path they should take (don’t mind if they keep the color red to maintain the blue vs red color matchup).
As much as I’m annoyed by the ‘United’ and ‘FC’ names, even something as cookie-cutter as ‘New Jersey-New York United’ would be a step up from the current name—and it would be one of the instances where using the ‘United’ name would actually feel appropriate and not forced.
