It’s not likely you’d be very worried about your golf game if the icecaps disappear and the flooding swallows up land across the globe, but if you are, don’t worry, there will be at least one course accepting tee-times. Leave it to the Dutch to build the worlds first floating golf course, and we’re talking the real deal here. Dutch Docklands is the designer behind the idea of the Royal Indian Ocean Club in the Maldives. As one would expect it boast a bunch of (sea)water hazards and 360 ocean views, but would you wouldn’t expect is a full 18 holes with driving range, practice center, 9-hole par 3 course, underwater clubhouse and runs completely on solar power. I think a tee time at Pebble may begin to seem reasonable after seeing what these guys will charge. I’m going to go on a limb here and bet this won’t be built any time soon. Enjoy their description and pictures of the property below.
World’s first Floating 18-hole Golf Course. This spectacular golf course design will feature many water hazards and 360 degree ocean views. An aquatic driving range, short games practice areas, putting greens and a 9 hole par 3 Academy course will add to the golf experience. The course design with multiple tees will offer the ultimate golf experience to all levels of golfers alike. The design will include many interesting water features where some of the holes on the island will be interconnected by a revolutionary underwater tunnel (see picture). In the tunnel you will be surrounded by tropical fish, manta rays and maybe the odd whale shark. The course provides the player with undulating “links land” style fairways with generous landing areas which challenge and intrigue all levels of players. The ultra-modern golf academy features state-of-the-art computer and video equipment to analyze a players swing. The instruction is tailored to the individual and can work for a player at any level, from amateur to pro. The underwater clubhouse includes a well-equipped golf shop, restaurant and bar to cater to the discerning golfer. Troon Golf, the worldwide leader in upscale golf course management, acts as our consultant and advisor on the golf course, which will be built on floating platforms designed to minimize the impact on the surrounding ecosystem. Within the development romantic homes and townhouses have been designed in venetian style, secluded in a village where everyone can enjoy a stroll through silky streets with some boutiques, an ice cream parlor, little restaurants and bars. Around the golf course some ultra-luxury palatial style villa’s will be built to create a stunning environment. This will definitely be the place where every golfer in the world will want to leave his or her footprint.
