It’s nice to see a player win a playoff with a birdie instead of a par. Tim “Lumpy” Herron capped a wild finish at the Bank of America Colonial with a birdie on the second playoff hole to beat out Richard Johnson. Herron used a set of old school Ping Eye 2 irons along with a TaylorMade R7 425, R7 TP 3 wood, Dual Rescue 16 degree hybrid, Titleist Vokey SW, Cleveland 900 GM LW, and Scotty Cameron putter to capture his first victory in seven years.

Didn’t have Lumpy in my fantasy picks last week but it was still a great week for SirPuttsAlots Fantasy Golf. Two of my picks – Stewart Cink and Arron Oberholser picked up over $200,000 each by finishing in a tie for fourth. Vaughn Taylor also had a good week and finished in a group tied for 17th at -6. Lucas Glover was our lone player who failed to make the cut.

This week moves us to the TPC Southwind in Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Classic. This is one of the few golf tournaments left that is not a “Bombers Paradise” as evidenced by last years top three finishers; Justin Leonard, David Toms, and Fred Funk. The TPC Southwind is a par 70 course that plays just over 7200 yards and is considered one of the top golf courses in the southern United States.

First pick this week has to be David Toms. Toms won this event in 2003 and 2004 and finished second here last year. I don’t think we have to say anything more about this pick.

Second pick this week is Bob Estes. Estes has had a bit of an up-and-down season but has finished in the top 25 four times. In the last five years Estes has finished 1, T30, T3, 2, and 8. Hard to not like his chances this week.

I’m going to go on a hunch and take Zach Johnson this week. After missing consecutive cuts Johnson played better last week and finished at -4. It looks like his game might be rounding back into shape and he should be well-suited to this golf course.

And in back to back weeks I will take Stewart Cink. Cink played well last week but he must be disappointed by his third round 72 that took him out of contention. He will be looking to redeem himself with a win this week.

So there we have our picks for the week, talk to you all again next week.
