Wow, a pretty good weekend for golf. It’s too bad Freddie couldn’t get his putter working on Sunday or we might have seen a different result. So a begrudging hats off to Phil Mickelson. He played great golf and I think his two driver concept is a brilliant idea. But soon we will turn our attention to this weeks Verizon Heritage in South Carolina.

We had some decent picks last week at The Masters. Olazabal and Goosen both finished in the logjam tie for third and collected some good paychecks. It won’t be long before Goosen finally wins one of these things. Garcia struggled on the weekend after a good start and wound up in 46th spot while K.J. Choi missed the cut.

Now we move along to the Verizon Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina. Harbour Town is a Pete Dye design and is probably one of the most famous golf images in the world with the red and white light house as a focal point. Harbour Town is as close to links golf as you will find in the U.S. and it boasts a pretty good field despite being scheduled one week after The Masters.

First pick is Ernie Els. Els seems very close to regaining his old form. If he can make a few more putts and eliminate the big mistakes I think we will see Els win again very soon, maybe even this week. Els has a good history in this event including a couple of third place finishes.

Ian Poulter might be a bit of a long shot this week but I think his game is well suited to Harbour Town. He has shown flashes of brilliance this year along with some underachieving play. This might be his week to show his mettle.

And Tim Clark and Camilo Villegas are my final two picks. Finally the world got to see how good a player Tim Clark really is. I think his second place finish will keep him motivated for this week. And Villegas will be anxious to show everybody that he deserved to be in last week’s Masters. I expect a strong performance from him.

There you have it. My picks for this week. SirShanks will be delivering his picks next Tuesday so maybe we will actually get a winner for a change!
