First day of spring huh? Whatever… if you live where we live you’re probably not too excited about more cold weather and snow. Spring has to come eventually right? Let’s continue with more of our reader reports from demo days…
Acushnet Golf (Titleist and Cobra) – Many of our readers agree that Titleist and Cobra have the early lead in demo day testing. The 905R driver has been getting nothing but positive reviews from both readers and customers. People like the looks, the feel and the performance. This is one Titleist driver that even boasts a bit of forgiveness too! The most popular shaft option amongst readers has been the UST V2. The Titleist iron line is much stronger with the additions of the 735, 775 and 695 irons. We’ve heard positive comments all around here too. A note with the irons… one of our readers tried the 735 irons with the Project X shafts. He was very impressed and suggests others have a look at this combination. I’d agree here… the Project X shafts are great and I think they’d work well in a club like the 735. If you’re thinking of upgrading… do it at the time of the purchase. It’s much cheaper to do it from the factory than have someone else do it down the road. The Cobra Speed Series woods have been a hit too. People like the different models designed for different players. The fairway woods have done well at my shop and my customers seem to really like them. Cobra is having a huge year on the PGA Tour… I guess that can’t hurt either!
Cleveland Golf – We’ve been talking a lot about Cleveland lately and the HiBore has usually been the topic of converstation. Initial impressions indicate that the HiBore might fall into the same category as the Nike SQ… works well but looks awful. A few of our readers have complained about the deafening sound that the HiBore makes… it seems to be a common theme among drivers these days. I think the jury is still out on the HiBore… it’s just coming to market and most people haven’t even seen it yet. The DSG wedges have recieved some praise… people like that the modified sole design makes the wedge good for all sorts of shots.
Mizuno Golf – We’ve known for years that Mizuno makes great irons but the 2006 Mizuno woods are getting a lot of attention. The MX-500 driver has been getting some good reviews and it’s success has got people looking at Mizuno fairway woods too.
So there you have it. A huge thanks to everyone that has taken the time to write in and give us their two cents… it’s nice to have feedback like this when the snow keeps us inside. I think it’s time we find a warmer place to live! Thanks again for all of the email and remember that we’ll have lots of golf club reviews on the way in the next few months!
