Wow, this past week really has me wondering why I don’t live in Phoenix. It’s been a long time since the thermometer reached that magical 0 F mark. Right now it feels like the golf season is a long way off but at least we have a big weekend on the PGA Tour coming up and some new toys in the shop to play with.

We now have both the Nike SUMO2 and the Callaway FT-i in the shop and have had a lot of interest in both. Obviously with the weather the way it is we haven’t been doing any outdoor testing but we’ve definitely been wearing out the simulators with them.

At this point I would have to say the FT-i is the early favorite. The incredibly loud sound (especially in a small little room) of the SUMO2 is throwing some people off and we have gotten a lot of comments that distance is a little shorter with this one. The FT-i on the other hand has a little more of a titanium feel to it than past Fusion drivers and that is going over well. Again this is only early, the SQ took awhile to catch on last year but once it did it went very well.

Both the regular SUMO driver and the FT-5 have received a lot of early praise and the FT-5 picked up a win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last weekend.

The PGA Tour moves to sunny Los Angeles this weekend for the Nissan Open. Even without Tiger this is shaping up to be a big event with 8 of the top 10 players in the world participating at the classic Riviera Country Club.

We have talked about Sonartec a little bit on this website and their new fairway wood, the GS Tour, has officially been launched. This club features many of the familiar Sonartec technologies like the Driving Cavity but promises less spin and a higher launch angle. You can check out www.sonartec.com for more information on the latest offering. If you haven’t looked at Sonartec golf clubs before do yourself a favor and check them out. They are a little pricey but well worth it, especially for the better player.

Thats it for now, time to go sit by the fire and dream of the beach!
