Adams has revamped its trend-setting Idea line with the new Idea a2. The idea behind the Idea is to create a set that seamlessly blends hybrids into irons without any distance gaps. The Idea set replaces harder to hit long irons with hybrid clubs but there are actually several distinct head designs in the set. This allows Adams to fine tune the center of gravity in each club for optimal performance that flows through the set.
The Idea a2 replaces the 3 and 4 iron with the a2 Tour Hybrid. This is a tour proven design that has been used on the Nationwide, PGA, and Champions Tours over the past several months.
The Idea a2 OS is designed for the higher handicap player and replaces the 3 and 4 irons with a wood-designed hybrid and the 5 and 6 irons with an iron-designed hybrid. The 7 and 8 irons are also a hollow design for ultimate forgiveness.
There is also an OS Senior set that removes the 3-hybrid in favor of a SW. The Idea a2 is another technologically sound product for Adams golf but it will be interesting if it can do anything to improve sales for the company.
In addition to the tour proven a2 hybrid Adams has introduced a new tour wedge designed by Max Puglielli that has been in use for over a year on the Champions Tour.
With a growing presence on the Champions tour and a recent effort to design more clubs for the serious player it will be interesting to see how aggressively Adams tries to enter the players market. I have heard rumors that Mike Weir will be joining Adams’ tour staff but no official word yet…
