So Close Freddie…

Many of us watching at home were hoping from deep down inside to see Fred Couples win another PGA tour event. The galleries always go nuts for one of the classiest and most popular players on the tour. Hats off to Bart Bryant though, a heck of a round and that par on 18 was all-world. Bryant has been solid following up his first victory last year with three top tens and a win at the Memorial this year.

Annika Sorenstam continued her dominant run by winning the ShopRite LPGA event. Her fifth win in seven events this year. Wow.

The movable weight technology continues to push forward. Adams Golf, www.adamsgolf.com, has released the first 460 cc driver with movable weight technology. The RPM 460 Dual has two weight ports, one in the toe and one in the heel and comes with two 7-gram weights, one 12-gram weight, and one 2-gram weight. The 460 Dual utilizes the same xFace and RePositioned Mass technologies as the 430Q making it one of the most forgiving drivers available and expanding the COR zone across the face.

The Diamana shaft from Mitsubishi is now available in most retail markets. The Diamana is currently being used by many of the world’s top players including Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods. Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company with over 30 subsidiaries specializing in fibers and chemical compounds. They have developed many different types of resins and fibers and have applied this knowledge to golf club shafts. One unique thing about the Diamana shaft is that every aspect is manufactured and controlled by Mitsubishi including the fiber, resin, and all the other things you would never even think of. This allows Mitsubishi to adjust compositions and designs to produce a shaft just right. The Diamana is available in five different weights from 53 grams to 103 grams to suit just about any type of player. While relatively expensive and unkown at this point expect the Diamana to start making waves just as the Fujikura Speeder did two years ago. With fourteen PGA victories last year and six already this year the Diamana appears set to break through to the mainstream.
