Well, I talked to my Ping rep yesterday and received some very limited insight into the new Ping Hybrid club. This club has been played on the tour for a couple of weeks now, notably by Miguel Angel Jimenez last week in his victory on the European Tour.

I’m not sure if the reps really don’t know anything about this club or if they are just supposed to keep quiet but he told me that Ping finally realized this is a market they just have to be in. It is way to big and growing to fast to ignore it. From what I understood this club will be sort of like Ping’s version of the Callaway Heavenwood. Basically, a longer, sleeker club modelled off of the G2 fairway wood. Unlike most hybrid clubs I would expect that this one will have different custom options for lie angle. No firm release date yet but Ping has never been shy about midseason releases and it sounds like this one could be out before September. Keep your fingers crossed and we will try and keep you updated as we hear more.

On a sad note, Darren Clarke has announced that he will not play in the 2005 U.S. Open. Darren’s wife is undergoing cancer treatment back home in Ireland and Darren will be at her side. This will be the first major that Darren has missed in seven years. Best wishes to Darren and his wife Heather.
