I talked to my Bridgestone/Precept Golf guy today and the company is staying pretty tight-lipped about all of the new stuff out there. He says that all of their staff players will be Bridgestone Golf staff players and this will be the name used on tour. He said there is at least two new balls on tour… that includes the one that Fred Couples is playing, a new driver that Stuart Appleby is using and a few new irons out there. Watch for Bridgestone to make a big splash at the PGA Show in Orlando. Also watch for them to make a serious run at signing Fred Couples to a club and ball deal.
SirPuttsAlot is off to Phoenix today and he will be touring the Ping factory. He hopes to have an article on it sometime next week. I’ll be at work today and have no plans on writing an article on that….. not that I’m jealous or anything!
I read an article about Nick Faldo and how he is gearing up for a big charge at the Open Championship in July at St. Andrews. He seems to think that he can win….. I’m a HUGE Faldo fan but I don’t think he has the game to win another British Open.
I saw the new Club Glove stuff today. They make amazing travel cases and charge a pretty penny for them. Their line really hasn’t changed much but I guess when something works you shouldn’t change it. If only TaylorMade could think that way…
And finally… Christmas shopping season has officially begun (at least around here) and already there are some early leaders emerging to take the “Most Popular Golf Gift” crown. The Callaway Heavenwoods are moving well, travel case sales have gone through the roof, the Titleist Pro V1 is selling, and the Sun Mountain carry bags are popular. It can get tricky to buy golf stuff at Christmas because so much of it is a personal thing. I like to tell customers to figure out a price range and then buy something in that range without being concerned about specs, shafts, etc. Think of it as a gift certificate that they can open on Christmas morning and then bring it back to get exactly what they need. We sell lots of iron sets and then enclose a certificate for a fitting. If anyone has questions about what to buy that golfer on your list…. send us an email and we can help you out!
