Well it’s official… Phil Mickelson has signed with Callaway Golf. He will now play Callaway equipment, wear Callaway footwear and gloves, and will have the Callaway name on his shirt, visor and bag.It was rumored that Phil was ready to get out of his Titleist contract and Callaway was said to be the frontrunner for his services. This is a great move for Callaway and gives them a “big name” that they really need. One would also assume this paves the way for more lefty equipment from Callaway. So what does this mean for Callaway and their retail equipment? Most Callaway people I talk to say nothing. Like any other company, Callaway’s staff players play equipment made for them. Callaway’s website says that Phil will work with Roger Cleveland to design his own equipment. I think he will eventually play some sort of blade designed for him while staying under the Callaway banner and not the Hogan one.
