The I3+ iron is the newest generation of the Ping Eye irons brought out many years ago. The Eye progressed into the Eye 2, the Eye 2+, and then the I3 before the I3+. The I3+ series is available in two models; the standard I3+ and the I3+ Blade, the Blade model being slightly smaller with a reduced offset.
The Ping irons feature a soft-cast head that has a very soft feel. The heads are heat treated for durability and to make the lie angles easier to adjust. The back of the club head features a Custom Tuning Port. This is the black and silver plastic insert that can be used to fine tune the club's weight as well as dampening vibrations. The clubs come standard with the lightweight CS-Lite steel or I3+ graphite shafts. As with all Ping clubs, these come fully fitted and the custom options are endless.
Unfortunately for Ping the I3+ series doesn't really fit into their line-up. The mid and high handicap players have all gravitated to the vastly superior G2 iron while the stronger players have moved to the S59. The I3+ isn't forgiving enough to appeal to the mid-handicappers and doesn't have the looks or control that better players prefer. For anybody who is looking for a good set of golf clubs and is interested in Ping, I would skip this iron and move right to the G2.
