PLANO, Texas (AP)—Sergio Garcia has withdrawn from British Open qualifying because of an infected fingernail.

Garcia has played in every British Open dating to 1998. He had to qualify this year because he has fallen to No. 73 in the world. The 31-year-old Spaniard joined other PGA Tour players Monday in the rain-plagued International Final Qualifier at Gleneagles Country Club.
Storms stopped play before the first of two 18-hole rounds, and officials decided to shorten the event to 18 holes.
Garcia, who previously said he would not go through U.S. Open qualifying next month, said on Twitter that he had to withdraw because of an infected fingernail on his left hand that made it difficult to grip the club.
