Titleist 909 Driver Gets Win

Good morning golf fans.  First of all let me start by apologizing for the lack of posts lately.  Shanks and Mrs. Shanks are off in the UK enjoying their honeymoon and I've been left in charge.  I guess he will know better for next time…

But I do have some golf equipment news to report so here goes.

A little while back we showed you some pictures of the newest Titleist driver to be put into play on the PGA Tour, the Titleist 909.  The driver has been much talked about since news of the new club first broke and now, thanks to relative unknown Chez Reavie, the Titleist 909 has its first official tour victory.

Reavie won the RBC Canadian Open using the Titleist 909D2 driver with a UST prototype shaft.  The 909D2 is a 460 cc head and it will be available in October 2008.  The driver will also be available in a 440 cc version called the 909D3 and a 460 cc composite version called the 909DCOMP.

Reavie was also sporting apparel from our friends over at Quagmire Golf.  If you haven't had a chance to get over and check out this website I would encourage you to do so to check out some of their sweet apparel.

In some unrelated tidbits it looks like we will be seeing at least one new iron from Ping this fall.  The S57 iron is now in use by several players on the big tour as well as the Nationwide.  These are a slightly smaller version of the S58 iron and they use some additional tungsten weighting to increase stability.  We are expecting some news on a new version of the Rapture as well but haven't heard anything official yet.

And finally, long overdue but I wanted to comment on Padraig Harrington's impressive win at the British Open.  Even as the defending champion Padraig came into the tournament somewhat under the radar and almost couldn't play after injuring his wrist in practice.  So congratulations to Padraig on a successful title defense.

We also hope to have a little more news on Greg Norman's triumphant return to the British Open and Senior British Open so stay tuned for that.
